定语从句关系副词that
关系副词that在定语从句中是如何使用的呢？同学们学习了哪些知识？
that可用作关系副词引导定语从句吗
在引导定语从句时，that通常用作关系代词，它在定语从句中主要用作主语或宾语。但事实上，that有时也可用作关系副词，在意义和用法上与关系副词相同。
如世界知识出版社出版的《薄冰高级英语语法》认为：that有时亦可用作表示时间的关系副词，相当于when。该书还指出：下面一些说法都对，但①最为正式，⑦最为非正式：
①The day on which she arrived was Thursday.她到的那天是星期四。
②The day which she arrived on was Thursday.
③The day that she arrived on was Thursday.
④The day she arrived on was Thursday.
⑤The day when she arrived was Thursday.
⑥The day that she arrived was Thursday.
⑦The day she arrived was Thursday.
⑧When she arrived was Thursday.
又如外文出版社与商务印书馆联合出版的.柯林斯系列语法著作《英语语法系列——连词》认为：有时可以用on the day、at the moment或the first time之类的短语加上that-关系从句代替连接when引导的时间状语从句。该观点的言外之意就是：on the day、at the moment或the first time后接that从句是关系从句（即我们通常说的定语从句），但on the day that、at the moment that或the first time that在意义上相当于when引导的时间状语从句。
再如Michael Swan著的《英语用法指南》(Practical English Usage)认为，在the day后面用when或that引导定语从句都有可能。该书给出的例句是：
Tuesday was (the day) when / that Jake went to London to see Colin.星期二就是杰克去伦敦看科林的日子。
很显然这个例句所包括的可能有：
Tuesday wasthe day thatJake went to London to see Colin.星期二就是杰克去伦敦看科林的日子。
Tuesday wasthe day whenJake went to Londonto see Colin.星期二就是杰克去伦敦看科林的日子。
Tuesday waswhenJake went to London to see Colin.星期二就是杰克去伦敦看科林的日子。（句中的when引导的是一个表语从句）
定语从句关系副词能不能由that代替
在非正式文体中，表示时间的普通名词后面的 when 常常由 that 来替代或省略。
Come and see usany time (that)you're in town. 你什么时候进城，就来看望我们吧。
I'll never forgetthe day (that)we met. 我永远不会忘记我们见面的那一天。
That wasthe year (that)I first went abroad. 那一年是我第一次出国。
somewhere, anywhere, everywhere, nowhere 和 place 后面的 where 也常常由 that 来代替或省略（但其他词不行）。
Have you gotsomewhere (that)I can lie down for an hour? 你有没有什么地方可以让我躺下来休息一个小时？
We need a place (that) we can stay for a few days. 我们需要一个可以暂住几天的地方。
(但不能说：We need a house we can stay for a few days.)
在非正式文体中，way 后面的 in which 可以用 that 替代或省略。
I didn't likethe way (that)she spoke to me. 我不喜欢她对我书店方式。
Do you knowa way (that)you can earn money without working? 你知不知道有什么办法可以不工作就赚到钱？
这种方法同样适用于 reason 后面的 why。
The reason （that）you're so bad-tempered is that you're hungry. 你脾气不好是因为你饿了。
